Endometriosis & Ovarian lesion characterization

Endometriosis

MRI is being used to image patients with endometriosis for diagnosis and presurgical planning. We are developing MRI algorithms that enhance the detection of endometriosis on MRI. MRI can be used in assessing severity of disease, assess multicompartment disease and prediction for bowel invasive endometriosis. Presurgical staging of disease with MRI and correlation with laparoscopy findings is of interest. Differentiation of residual disease from postoperative scarring is clinically relevant. MRI based identification of patients that are candidates for medical therapy and identifying responders to hormonal treatment is being researched. Artificial intelligence is being studied for aiding detection of endometriosis on Ultrasound and MRI.

Endometriosis detection and assessing severity can be performed with MRI.  Research is being focused on identifying presurgical assessment, postoperative appearance and medical treatment evaluation.

Ovarian lesion characterization

Ovarian lesion imaging with ultrasound and MRI allows an opportunity to diagnose benign and malignant lesions. O-RADS MRI protocols are being evaluated for clinical performance of consensus guidelines.  Role of MRI after ultrasound is being evaluated to recognize lesions that are sufficiently evaluated with ultrasound and detect lesions that need additional evaluation with MRI. The role of MRI for detecting early ovarian cancer is also being studied.

Ovarian lesion characterization with MRI increases diagnosis specificity. Identifying patients where MRI is helpful after ultrasound can aid in developing imaging workflows.
