Motion Robust MRI
A large challenge in MRI remains blurring, artifacts, and reduced image quality that comes from patient motion. Even breathing can compromise image quality, and patients undergoing body MRI are often asked to serially hold their breath to mitigate motion. We continue to do extensive research on free-breathing abdominal and pelvic MRI enabled through developing motion-resistant acquisition schemes, motion-mitigating reconstructions, and even by building our own radar and pilot-tone based motion sensing devices. Examples include non-Cartesian pulse sequence design and DC navigators. Combined with modern artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) approaches, these techniques reduce reliance on breath-holding, increase scan reliability, and improve patient comfort.
